JUNETEENTH CELEBRATIONCINDY ELLEN RUSSELL / CRUSSELL@STARBULLETIN.COM
The congregation of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church held a Spiritual Unity Rally yesterday in honor of Juneteenth or June 19th, the day when the last of the black slaves were freed in the United States in 1865. Sister Gwendolyn Johnson and Sister Betty J. Harris sang gospel at the church. The rally also was a call to support presidential hopeful Barack Obama. Obama's half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, attended and is pictured in the row behind the sisters.
