Junior PGA championship at Princeville
The Princeville Makai Course is the site of the June 28-29 Aloha Section Junior PGA Championship, the first time the statewide event has been held at one location.
The winners of the 13-18 boys and girls divisions qualify for the Westfield Junior PGA Championship, July 11-14, in Westfield, Ohio. Two Hawaii golfers have gone on to win the national title: Stephanie Kono in 2005 Reynold Lee in 1988.
Held in conjunction with the event is the PGA Play Golf America Day, June 28, from 1 to 6 p.m. There will be free instruction from top local PGA professionals, demo days, free food and drinks, contests, prizes and giveaways.

Tandem surfing in Waikiki
Defending champions Brian Keaulana and Kathy Tejada of Makaha make up one of the dozen teams competing for the World Title of Tandem Surfing, Aug. 23-25, off Waikiki Beach.
The event is part of the Duke Kahanamoku OceanFest Celebration, a multi-sport competition honoring the late Kahanamoku. Competing are tandem teams from Hawaii, France, Australia, Brazil, Florida and California.
Clinics will be offered to the public from 10 a.m. until noon Aug. 22-25 at Waikiki Beach.
