MOSHING FOR JESUS:JOHN BERGER / JBERGER@STARBULLETIN.COMSpencer Chamberlain, lead vocalist for the Christian metalcore band Underoath, presided as the band entertained an enthusiastic wall-to-wall crowd June 12 at Pipeline Cafe. The lyrics were unintelligible upstairs but the congregation of fans on the main level moshed and crowd-surfed with such intensity that their body heat overwhelmed the air conditioning. AIRBORNE!JOHN BERGER / JBERGER@STARBULLETIN.COMBloomfields bassist Louie Poco took to the air as the group performed at a reception on June 10 commemorating the 109th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence, hosted by Philippine Consul General Ariel Abadilla, at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. The Bloomfields did a surprisingly fine job playing classic rock 'n' roll and "English Invasion" music. The independence of the Philippines was proclaimed by Philippine President Emilio Aguinaldo on June 12, 1898. CLICK FOR LARGE |
