Purrfect present

June is Love-a-Cat Month and what better way to express that love than to give a gift to a kitty?

The Hawaiian Humane Society is holding cat toy-making sessions tomorrow and next Saturday. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. learm to make a toy to take home or give to a cat in up for adoption at the shelter.

Children who make toys may place their name on a paw print to be hung in the shelter's Cat House.

The shelter is at 2700 Waialae Ave. in Moiliili.

While you're there, consider adopting a cat: Through June two cats ages 6 months and older may be taken home for one adoption fee. Call 946-2187.

Designer Kathy Norton shares makeover progress

Pick up some renovation tips when Kathy Norton, interior designer in the Hawaii Home & Remodeling "Inspire Your Home Makeover Contest," gives a progress report on the winning project and teams with Benjamin Moore Paints to help color your world.

The update, along with a mini workshop on how to select paints for your home, will be held 10 to 11 a.m. June 23 at the Honolulu Design Center.

This free event is the second workshop in the center's "Designer Saturday" series, an effort to introduce talented designers to the community.

Home show fun for Father's Day

This Father's Day weekend, take in the Home & Garden show where everything from home design to landscaping projects will be under one roof for the man of the house to see.

The event also features prize giveaways including home and landscape design packages, Royal Caribbean cruises to the Bahamas or Mexico and trips to Las Vegas or the neighbor islands.

Show hours are 5 to 10 p.m. today; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and children ages 7 to 12; those under age 6 will be admitted free with a paying adult.

A portion of the proceeds benefit Ka Hale Hoala Hou No Na Wahine, a nonprofit agency helping women re-establish their lives after serving time in the criminal justice system.

Take a walk on the dark side

Look, listen and learn during Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden's "Night Walk," 6:30 to 9 p.m. June 30.

The free guided walk begins at the visitor center and focuses on alien plants and animals harmful to the island environment.

Wear walking shoes and bring insect repellent, rain gear and a flashlight.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for picnics. Reservations are required. Call 233-7323.

Create your own home furniture

Naked Furniture in Aiea has announced a "create your own" program in which customers can design dining room chairs, tables and more. Owner Larry Robles said a set number of interchangeable core features makes it easy to create original pieces.
