Awards honor Kapolei's innovators

Kapolei Property Development has bestowed its 2007 Kapolei Outstanding Achievement Awards on the individuals and groups that have made Kapolei a better place. The awards are sponsored by the Estate of James Campbell.

Winners are: Dee White of the Ewa Beach Community Association, sharing the community service award with the Ewa Weed & Seed Program; Daryl Madela of Kapolei School, education; Chuck Larson, Seagull Schools, entrepreneur; and Grace Pacific Corp., environment.

Matthew Chee, a 2007 Maryknoll School graduate, won a $1,500 National Honor Society scholarship from the National Association of Secondary School Principals. He is one of 53 students nationwide to get the honor. Chee will attend Santa Clara University in California as a Presidential Scholar with a full-tuition scholarship for four years.

Heald College gave its Outstanding Instructor Award to Manuel Domingo, based on student nominations. He has been with the Honolulu campus since 2004.

Shawn Char of Castle High School and Kara Panui of Kapaa High School on Kauai received the Heald College Excellence in Career Education Teaching Awards.

The college also named the Federal Aviation Administration its Employer of the Year for showing exceptional support to Heald students and graduates
