14 island beauties are competing in Miss Hawaii contest

Everybody loves a pageant. Or was that a parade? But what is a pageant if not a parade of young lovelies ... of both genders.

Take your pick of pageants this week, one traditional and one with a twist:

MISS HAWAII 2007

Fourteen contestants will vie for the coveted title from 8 to 10 p.m. tomorrow in the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom, competing in swimsuit, talent and evening wear contests. The winner will receive cash scholarship awards and represent the state in the Miss America 2008 competition.

The event starts with cocktails at 6 p.m., and includes entertainment by Robert Cazimero and the 24/VII DanceForce. Tickets are $40. Call 947-7936.

UNIVERSAL SHOWQUEEN

The 24th annual contest taking place 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hawai 'i Convention Center Kalakaua Ballroom seeks "The Ultimate in Boy Beautiful" with contestants combining talent and extravagant showgirl costumes in couture cocktail, evening gown and Las Vegas showgirl categories. At stake is $10,000 in cash and prizes.

Tickets are $40, $50 and $60, available at Diamond Head Video, 1745 Kalakaua Ave. Call 372-9350.
