Dinner features Clifton vineyards
Santa Barbara, Calif., winemaker Steve Clifton and chef Wayne Hirabayashi are partnering on a menu featuring Clifton's vineyards of Palmina, Brewer-Clifton and Ash Hollow, Wednesday to Saturday at Hoku's at the Kahala Hotel & Resort.
The menu: Summer Peach Carpaccio, appetizer choice of Ahi & Big Island Baby Abalone or Paiard of Tasmanian Salmon, entrée of Char-Grilled Allen Brothers Dry-Aged NY Steak, Surfing Goat Dairy Cheese with Summer Truffles and dessert of Tatin Pacifica.
All courses offered with a selection of chardonnay, pinot noir, sangiovese and syrah. Cost is $88. Call 739-8780.

71-cent burgers for safety officials
Hard Rock Cafes around the world are offering burgers for 71 cents on Thursday to those who safeguard our public safety.
The offer -- open to police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians -- celebrates the restaurant chain's founding in 1971 and the launch of a new menu.
The 71-cent selections will come from the Hard Rock's "Legendary Experience" menu of 10-ounce burgers with names such as the Big Blue Burger (with crumbled blue cheese and horseradish sauce) and the S.O.B. Burger (with chipotle puree, Monterey Jack, guacamole and grilled onions).

Wine event toasts Silver Oak Cellars
The Napa Valley wines of Silver Oak Cellars will be showcased in a wine dinner at Ruth's Chris Steak House at the Shops at Wailea on Maui, at 6:30 p.m. June 19.
Silver Oaks representative Steve Raskin will speak on the wines and the pairings. The menu: Bacon-Wrapped Seared Scallops, Stuffed Calamari Braised with Italian Sausages (with Twomey Merlot 2003), Roasted Tournedos of Beef with Sautéed Tiger Prawns (1998 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon), and Chocolate Sin Cake (2002 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon).

U.S., import beers featured at dinner
With all this talk about wine pairing, it's important to note that beer can be paired with foods, as well.
Roy's Hawaii Kai offers a beer-pairing dinner, 6:30 p.m. June 22. Chef Roy Yamaguchi's dishes will be matched with Anheuser-Busch selections from Holland, China and the United States.
Brewmaster George Reisch will introduce the beers.
The menu: Seafood Sausage with White Bean Cassoulet (with Stella Artois Premium Lager), Pan-Roasted Salmon (Grolsch Premium Lager), Chili Lobster Congee (Harbin Lager), Sous-Vide of Organic Chicken (Widmer Hefeweizen), Trio of Culotte Steak, Lamb Shank & Oxtail (Stone Mill Organic Pale Ale) and a dessert plate (Michelob Amber Bock).
