Catricala on All-America frosh team
University of Hawaii designated hitter Vinnie Catricala yesterday was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team, as chosen by Collegiate Baseball.
Catricala, named to the All-Western Athletic Conference second team, batted .307 on the season with 27 RBIs, 24 runs, two home runs, one triple and six doubles.
UH basketball camp opens tomorrow
The Hawaii Rainbow Boys and Girls Basketball Camp opens tomorrow with openings still available for those interested in participating.
UH head coach Bob Nash will oversee the camp, which runs tomorrow through Wednesday and is split into four sessions. Session I (ages 5-8) runs 9 -11 a.m., with Session II (ages 9-13) scheduled for 1-4 p.m.
Session III is geared to high school age players and teams and is set for 5-8 p.m., through Tuesday. Session IV is a parent-and-child clinic set for 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, which will include basic skills instruction for youngsters and tips for parents in assisting their child's development.
The cost for the camp is $150 for Sessions I and II (with a $50 discount for new and existing season-ticket holders), $10 for Session III, and $25 for Session IV.

Sea Warriors sign JC setter
Jackie Tomas, the assist leader in California junior college volleyball last season, has signed to play with Hawaii Pacific next season.
The 5-foot-8 setter averaged 13.8 assists for Los Angeles Pierce College, which went 27-5 and finished second in the state championship.
