KCC cooking classes
Kapiolani Community College has begun its summer cooking classes. Call 734-9211. Here is the lineup for June:
Living Off the Land Culinary Tour: Visit Aloun Farms with chef Grant Sato, followed by a hands-on cooking class using ingredients from the farm; 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 16 and July 7. Cost is $80.
Thai Cuisine: Part of the Cooking Basics series; 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Cost is $60.
Flavors of the Middle East Cuisine: Series on Moroccan cooking taught by Magdy Elzoheiry, a native of Alexandria, Egypt. Classes are from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays, focusing on seafood June 16, chicken dishes June 23 and lamb June 30. Cost is $55 per class.
Cooking for Health and Wellness: Personal chefs Alyssa Moreau and Leslie Ashburn teach "Guilt-Free Desserts," 8 a.m. Saturday; "Healthy Dieting," 1 p.m. June 23; and "Going with the Grain," 8 a.m. June 30. Cost is $45 to $48 per class.
Who's ready for fame?
The Hawaii Restaurant Association is establishing a Hall of Fame to mark its 60th anniversary, and is looking for nominees.
Diners, restaurateurs and those in the food services are invited to nominate pioneers who helped establish Hawaii's dining industry prior to 1960.
Criteria include contributions to the image and quality of the industry and dedication to its growth, as well as community service. Individuals may be nominated posthumously, and you may nominate yourself.
Nominations will be accepted through June 30. Download forms from the Web site www.hawaiirestaurants.org.
The first members will be inducted Sept. 17 at the Hawaii Prince Hotel.

Nordic Ware, maker of the iconic baking pan is calling for recipes that celebrate 10 holidays: Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Independence Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah or Christmas.
Ten finalists will participate in a national bakeoff in San Francisco in October. The grand-prize winner will receive $10,000.
