FESTIVAL
Taking pride
The sight of rainbows will be in full effect this weekend as it's all about the Honolulu Gay Pride 2007 Festival and Parade.
It kicks off Friday night at 6 with the Honolulu Gay Pride family reunion dinner at McCoy Pavilion, Ala Moana Beach Park, with entertainment provided by the Hawaiian band Keauwena. Tickets are $25 and can be bought by calling sponsor The Center at 545-2848 or going online at www.thecenterhawaii.org.
The pavilion will also be home base for the festival on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Two stages will present a "Gay Idol" final, poetry slam, a "drag king" contest, deejays all day, and the winners of the Mr., Miss and Ms. contest held the previous two days at the Fusion and N'Tyce bars. There'll also be youth and children's areas, plus food booths and nonprofit and commercial vendors.
Admission is $5.
But before that, there's the Gay Pride parade starting at 9:30 a.m., starting from Magic Island, proceeding down Kalakaua Avenue and ending at Kapiolani Park. The Aloha Gay Pride Marching Band will make its debut as well.
For more information on all of these events, call The Center at the above phone number.
