Build a racetrack and they will come.

That's something Michael Kitchens, chairman of the Oahu Motorsports Advisory Council, guarantees. And he's hoping Sunday's Build the Track! Motorshow will help garner additional interest outside of the core group of racing enthusiasts.

Build The Track! Motorshow

Place: Aloha Tower Marketplace

Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday

Call: 782-7432 or visit buildthetrack.com

Admission: Free

In the drive to find a replacement for the Campbell Industrial Park facility that closed April 1, Kitchens said the reason behind the nonprofit show is, simply, "to bring the community together to support the building of a new facility. We all want a racetrack and it doesn't matter where it'll end up on the island. It should also be a safer and multipurpose one."

Build the Track! will showcase more than 75 "race and modified vehicles, 30 of which are true race-spec vehicles covering drag racing, drifting, road racing, go-karting, dirt track, motorcycle racing, motocross, auto-x, etc.," Kitchens said. "The remaining cars will be highly modified tuner vehicles ranging from old-school muscle cars to import cars, street bikes and more.

"Of the remaining cars, 30 will be show-style cars with the full audio setups and 'bling,' and will be placed within the valet parking area at the terminal." (Most of the vehicles will be parked on the Boat Days Promenade in front of Aloha Tower and along Pier 9, overlooking the water.)

Other attractions will include radio-control racing and drifting exhibitions, a video-game racing setup, a keiki carnival, a model car display by the Hawaiian Islands Model Car Club, a prize raffle and the opportunity to win two tickets to the 2007 Hawaii Grand Sumo Tournament next weekend.

Entertainment will be provided by DJ720 and punk band Golfcart Rebellion.
