A Great Crater Festival
SING A SONG!:JOHN BERGER / JBERGER@STARBULLETIN.COMMayor Mufi Hannemann talked backstage with Ralph Johnson, left, Verdine White and Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire at the 2007 Diamond Head Crater Festival May 19. Although they were not the designated headliners, EWF played a top-quality set that included their biggest chart hits and a few other classics. White danced almost nonstop for the 90-minute set, and Bailey showed he can still hit the high notes when he stepped forward on "Reasons" and "After the Love Is Gone." CLICK FOR LARGE |

VERDINE ROCKS: |
BETTER THAN LAST YEAR:JOHN BERGER / JBERGER@STARBULLETIN.COMGregg Rolie, left, conferred backstage with festival promoter Ron Gibson of GM Entertainment. It was a better festival than last year, when Linda Ronstadt chose to do lounge music rather than her old-time hits. Mick Fleetwood's Island Rumours Band played solid bar-band rock, EWF was excellent and the Gregg Rolie Band evoked memories of Rolie's years with Santana. CLICK FOR LARGE |
