Happy 60th, Outrigger
PERFECT HOSTS, PERFECT PARTY:JOHN BERGER / JBERGER@STARBULLETIN.COMIt was "all you can eat" for three hours Friday on Lewers Street as Dr. Richard Kelley, left, chairman of the Outrigger Enterprises Group; Barbara Campbell, VP of retail leasing; and President and CEO David Carey helped celebrate Outrigger Hotels' 60th anniversary and the formal opening of Outrigger's ambitious $535 million Waikiki Beach Walk with a perfect block party. Waiters circulated through the crowd with trays of heavy pupus courtesy of Waikiki Beach Walk tenants, including Ruth's Chris Steak House, Roy's, the Holokai Grill and the Yard House, and other waiters served wine and beer. There was so much food being served inside and outside the restaurants that the waiters were still bringing it out as the party was ending, and with four bars serving beverages, no one had to wait long for a drink. AUSTRALIA IS IN THE HOUSE!JOHN BERGER / JBERGER@STARBULLETIN.COMAustralian Consul-General John Quinn, third from left, and his wife, Alison, caught up with fellow "Ozzies" Damian Hertslett, left, Darren Edmonson and Garrett Grace. The group obviously had read the party brochure because they were in fine position to flag down passing waiters and also were close to one of the drink stations. CLICK FOR LARGE |

MEET KAPONO'S KIDS:JOHN BERGER / JBERGER@STARBULLETIN.COMHenry Kapono gave his wife, Lezlee, a hand with their twins, Cassandra, left, and Kapono, after performing. Kapono pioneered the use of reggae rhythms in local music with his recording of "Stand in the Light" more than 25 years ago, and one of Friday's highlights was a new nonreggae arrangement of the song. Kapono is a 2007 Hoku Awards finalist in three categories, including Male Vocalist of the Year, for his current album, "Wild Hawaiian." CLICK FOR LARGE |
