Woman dies after scuffle with grandson's dad
WAILUA, Kauai » A 65-year-old woman died Thursday after being kicked in the chest during a fight with the father of her grandson the day before.
Police said Marie Annette Mundon of Wailua was holding one of her grandchildren in her driveway at about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday when the father of the child, a 27-year-old Wailua man, drove up to the house and grabbed the child, pushing Mundon in the process.
Her husband, James Mundon, 68, attacked the suspect and was assaulted by him, police said.
When Marie Mundon attempted to pull her husband away, the suspect kicked her in the chest, according to police.
She complained of chest pains so she was taken to Wilcox Hospital, where she was treated for serious injuries. She died Thursday.
The husband sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention, police added.
Information was not available on the age of the grandchild or what happened to him.
County public information officer Mary Daubert said the suspect's name has not been released because he has not been formally charged with a crime.
As of last night, he was still in police custody as investigators continued to question him.
