Give Colt free parking and the school might get the money back
IT WAS Soap Day yesterday at the Honolulu Quarterback Club and the members responded with gusto. There was a whole stack sitting there, just waiting to turn into scrubbing bubbles for the Hawaii football team. The Quarterback Club had felt called to action, it wanted to do something, and so there it was. Soap.
Liquid soap. Solid soap. Floating (Ivory) soap. I think I even saw a few bars of Camay in there in case any of the guys care about having really soft skin.
THAT'S HOW crazy it's gotten, this Colt Brennan thing. It's taken on a life of its own.
People are donating soap.
» Meanwhile, on the mainland, more headlines:
"Paradise lost on him." (This is from the San Jose Mercury News and calls Brennan "hard to please." It also theorizes about Brennan's parking woes, "That $800 could be a record for a Heisman Trophy candidate at his own school." I don't know, when it comes to school fines I think Jim McMahon at BYU probably still has him beat.)
"Anteaters' era of dominance, a whiny QB, new K king." (An SI.com columnist on the week that was in college sports.)
And finally ...
"Heisman candidate needs to take a shower."
» If I were Herman Frazier I would order Brennan into my office, sit him down, shut the door ...
... And put my arm around him and talk to him about becoming a donor for the upcoming capital-improvements project for UH athletic facilities! (Which, by the way, we heard a lot about for a while, but have not heard much about in a while. Hey, that sounds familiar.)
LET'S FACE IT, schools have the kind of facilities Brennan is talking about (Colorado, Ohio State) in part because they get large, private donations. And there is speculation that Brennan might be coming into some money in about a year. He wants to spark change? I'm sure Frazier would be happy to talk about the Colt Brennan Signing Bonus FieldTurf at Cooke Field.
» A lot of this stuff is stuff that is really not Herman Frazier's fault. And yet, because of the situation he's in, the perception is that everything is his fault. Even stuff that is not his fault is his fault. If it rains tomorrow there will be someone who says it's Herman Frazier's fault.
And yes, that it's come to that is Frazier's own fault.
» There's a guy who writes me almost every week. Always says how great UH is, especially Colt Brennan. But in this instance with the tickets?
"Kinda funny about Brennan and parking. Reminded me of the good ol' times (without) nostalgia. Before ANYONE can grad from UH he must first brave the line at the school's own traffic office to take care of all of his past indiscretions. Oh, the memories. Not even the Manoa Mist can cool off that setback. Jus reality, braddah Colt."
