Celebrating a Life
Here is Saturday's schedule of events in memory of Don Ho:

7 p.m. a memorial celebration will be held at Queens Surf Beach. Ho's friends Cha Thompson and John De Fries will serve as masters of ceremonies. An opening chant will be performed by Clifford Naeole. Performers, some backed by the Imakalani Young Band, include:

Through the Years
1930: Born Donald Tai Loy Ho on Aug. 13.
1949: Graduated from the Kamehameha Schools.
1950: Attended Springfield College in Massachusetts on an athletic scholarship.
1953: Earned a bachelor's degree in sociology at University of Hawai'i.
1954-1959: Served in United States Air Force.
1959: Began singing at his mother's club, Honey's in Kaneohe.
1964: Opened with the Aliis at Duke's in Waikiki.
1965: Signed to Reprise Records and released a pair of live albums -- "The Don Ho Show!" and "Don Ho -- Again!" -- assembled from two nights of recordings.
1966: Appears at Coconut Grove in Los Angeles; goes on to appearances in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Chicago and New York City. "Tiny Bubbles" reaches No. 8 on Billboard charts and stays in Top 20 for almost a year.
1969: Parts ways with the Aliis.
1972: Makes cameo appearance on an episode of "The Brady Bunch."
1976 to March 1977: "Don Ho Show" variety program airs on ABC.
1979: Received the Sidney Grayson Award (the predecessor to the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts' Lifetime Achievement Award).

1981: Returns with five original members of the Aliis to International Market Place with a 1 a.m. "Suck 'em Up" weekend late show.
1989: Wins Na Hoku Hanohano Award for single of the year for "With All My Love."
1996: Appeared as the slumlord villain in the cult film "Joe's Apartment."
2001: Became the first Hawaii artist to receive a gold record for sales of more than 500,000 for "Don Ho's Greatest Hits."
2005: Diagnosed with cardiomyopathy; pacemaker installed.
2005: Has his own blood-derived stem cells injected into his heart by surgeons in Thailand.
September 2006: Marries Haumea Hebenstreit; new pacemaker installed.
April 14, 2007: Dies from heart failure.
