RESTORATION DAY
JAMM AQUINO / JAQUINO@STARBULLETIN.COM
Kehaulani Kruse, right, led a procession of about 20 people yesterday into Queen Liliuokalani's grave site to Mauna Ala, to leave leis, or hookupu, celebrating Hawaiian Restoration Day for the first time. Last week, the state Legislature passed a resolution declaring the day, which memorializes President Grover Cleveland, who was opposed to the overthrow of the queen in 1893 and set April 30, 1894, as a day of prayer and repentance over the U.S. role in the overthrow. Representatives of some Hawaiian organizations went to New Jersey last week to hold ceremonies at Cleveland's birthplace in Caldwell and grave site in Princeton to honor him. CLICK FOR LARGE
