Manipulating New Media marketing

THE movie "The Secret" broke onto the world stage as an online video.

It would be a stretch to say that the promoters of "The Secret" used a New Media campaign to transform an online movie into a mass movement. However, there is a true connection.

Where the real linkage to marketing with New Media is clear is that we're dealing here with something more subversive (and much more effective) than the communication channel being used.

The first thing to note about marketing "The Secret" is that the Three Ps of New Media Marketing (People, Participation, and Persuasion) have been used very effectively to draw in people whose minds are open to the message of the movie. Here, the Three Ps were used, as explained in detail in our book, "Secrets of Online Persuasion," to create an online and off-line buzz that could not have been equaled even with the full power of the New Media marketplace being employed intentionally.

Second, on the more practical side, New Media channels were used quite effectively to spread the gospel of "The Secret."

But neither of these points is close to being a New Media "mindfreak." The reason is a little deeper.

I chose "The Secret" as the subject of this week's column about a New Media mindfreak because of what you can learn about mass manipulation and pervasive persuasion -- two tools you can use as you market online with New Media, and off-line, face-to-face.

A good friend of mine, Dave Lakhani, along with Kevin Hogan, Blair Warren, and Pastor Bob Beverly, has broken down the persuasion strategies used to package and propagandize "The Secret" for us in a two-hour round table packed with practical insights and strategies.

They reveal the truth behind "The Secret," and in doing so, they reveal secrets you can use yourself.

When you listen to their MP3 audio, you'll learn how you can protect yourself against such propaganda and, at the same time, you'll learn some very interesting persuasion and psychological strategies that you can apply directly in your own new-media marketing.

Whether you're a "true believer" in "The Secret" or not, what you'll learn from these persuasion experts will open your eyes to what's going on right in front of us each and every day.

Here's where to go to download "The Truth Behind The Secret Audio": http://media.libsyn.com/media/boldapproach/thesecret.mp3

I suggest that, once on the site, you right click and "save as" to save it to your computer so you can listen to it at your convenience and refer to it for strategies in New Media marketing.

Listen to it. Learn, laugh, and profit from it.
