Wahine sink Sea Warriors
The Hawaii women's tennis team downed NCAA Div. II Hawaii Pacific 6-1 yesterday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. With the win, the Rainbow Wahine improved to 6-16 in their season finale, and will go to Boise, Idaho, later this week to compete in the Western Athletic Conference Championship.
In their final regular-season matches of their careers, Hawaii seniors Kana Aikawa, Florence Wasko and Samantha Cappella each notched victories. Aikawa defeated Ingrid Cseh 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-2; Wasko downed Lauren Shin 6-2, 3-6, 6-4; and Capella breezed by Asako Nishikawa 6-2, 6-1.
Vulcans sweep 'Swords in twinbill
The Hawaii-Hilo softball team swept the visiting Chaminade Silverswords 11-1 and 8-0 yesterday afternoon in a PacWest Conference doubleheader at Carvalho Park. The Vulcans improved to 37-10 overall and 15-3 in league play, while Chaminade dropped to 7-38, 3-18.
Tracy Ryan scattered two hits and earned the complete-game victory in game one, and improved to 12-5. Kanani Numata drove in three runs in the winning effort.
Leo Sing Chow and Sarah Weisskopf combined on a one-hit shutout in game two, and Sing Chow earned the win to improve to 9-1. Vanessa Badosa went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead Hilo at the dish.
