Morinaga earns All-Big Sky honors
Kayla Morinaga (Sacred Hearts '05) has been named to the All-Big Sky Conference women's golf second team.
The Portland State sophomore finished 19th in the Big Sky championships on Wednesday on the par-72, 6,165-yard Palm Valley Course in Goodyear, Ariz. She had rounds of 81-76-75--232.
Brittany Austin (Campbell '06), a freshman for the Idaho State Bengals, finished 20th, shooting 78-79-76--233.
Monden places sixth in diving
Mililani's Aleia Monden, a St. Andrew's Priory alum, finished sixth in the women's 10-meter semifinals at the Speedo Diving Spring National Championships yesterday in Boyds, Md.
Her score of 245.30 points advances her to tomorrow's finals.
Speed and Quickness clinics set
The Hawaii Speed and Quickness clinics are again open to all ages from 5 up, beginning this weekend.
The clinics are at the University of Hawaii at 8:30 a.m., with registration at 8 a.m. tomorrow and Sunday.
Certificates for Jamba Juice and Jack In The Box and UH football media guides are included in the $10 registration fee.

Lajola advances to quarterfinals
Fourth-seeded Dennis Lajola of Aiea breezed past No. 14 Bradley Cox 6-1, 6-3 yesterday to advance to the quarterfinals of the USTA-Easter Bowl tournament at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort at Rancho Mirage, Calif.
Lajola will face Jeff Dadamo of Tampa, Fla., a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Drew Daniel of Shawnee Mission, Kan.
Saladin leads Mid-Pacific Open
Chad Saladin shot a 5-under-par 67 to grab the first-round lead of the 49th annual Mid-Pacific Open golf tournament at the Mid-Pacific Country Club.
Saladin holds a two-shot advantage over Lance Taketa, while Kevin Carll is three swings back.
Defending champion David Ishii opened with a 72.
Chuck Davis tops the Pro-Senior division at 70, followed by Ishii and Leland Lindsay at 72, Daniel Nishimoto (73) and Mark Morrison (74).
T.J. Kua leads the championship flight at 73. Brandan Kop, Casey Watabu and Paul Kimura are a stroke back.
The second of four rounds is set for 6:30 this morning, with the final round on Sunday.
