Waters requested release 2 weeks ago
Former Hawaii guard Dominic Waters' transfer to Portland State became official as the school announced his signing yesterday.
Waters requested and was granted his release from UH and will return home to Portland, Ore., to continue his college career. UH coach Bob Nash said Waters requested the release about two weeks ago.
"He came to us and said he wanted to explore the possibility of playing closer to home," Nash said. "He had a tough year last season and felt in his heart he wanted to move on."
Waters started three games and was a key reserve in his two years at UH. He was the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year in 2005-06 and shared point guard duties with Matt Gibson last season. He averaged 6.3 points per game and had 51 assists in playing more than 17 minutes per contest.
He will sit out next season due to transfer rules and have two years of eligibility with the Vikings starting in 2008-09.
