Murray wins at Mt. Sac Relays
Hawaii athlete Novelle Murray won the university/ open division in the discus at the Mt. Sac Relays at Walnut, Calif., yesterday.
Murray, a senior, threw the disc 176 feet, 2 inches to beat Rachel Longfors (171-6) of Club Chuck It. Katie Richardson of Fresno State finished third.
Hawaii sophomore Emily Sheppard won the university/open title in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 10 inches.
Mireya Beltran, who was unattached, finished second ahead of UH's Mallory Gilbert. Gilbert cleared 5-7, while Beltran hit 5-8.75.
Hawaii Pacific sweeps in softball
The Hawaii Pacific softball team swept visiting 15th-ranked Hawaii-Hilo in a PacWest Conference softball doubleheader, 4-3 and 2-1, yesterday afternoon at HPU.
Danielle Young's single off the fence in left field brought home Nicole Kalakau in the bottom of the 10th inning as the No. 22 Sea Warriors (28-10) claimed the opener. Courtney Kessell earned the complete-game victory.
Jessica Adolph picked up her second complete-game victory in as many days in game two.
» Chaminade dropped both games of a doubleheader to visiting Dixie State, 9-1 and 16-5, yesterday at Kailua High School.
The Rebels improved to 46-12, while the Silverswords fell to 7-36.
Honorable-mention honors for Lee
Kepua Lee has been named to the NAIA Kodak/WBCA All-America honorable-mention basketball team after helping the Menlo College Oaks to a 25-3 record, the California Pacific Conference title and a NAIA Division II No. 7 national ranking.
The 2004 Moanalua graduate led the league in scoring and rebounding. The 5-foot-9 junior forward finished ninth nationally in defensive rebounds, averaging 6.7 a game.
Silver medal for judoka Ibera
Taylor Ibera of Honolulu finished second in his debut at the Pan American Juvenile Judo Championships last Thursday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The Team USA judoka from Hawaii Tenri earned a silver medal in the 15-16 year-old 44 kg division.
Hawaii's Fastest Human set for April 28
The annual Hawaii's Fastest Human 100-meter sprint contest will be run again at the Punahou Invitational Relays on April 28 at Alexander Field.
Registration and trials are set for April 26 at 4:30 p.m. Call coach Doug Kilpatrick at 286-1423 for information.
3 are All-Northwest Conference picks
Hawaii golfers Emily Lau (Iolani), Whiney Ueno (Hilo) and Jasmine Ching (Hilo) earned all-conference honors for their efforts at the Northwest Conference golf tournament yesterday.
Williamette's Ueno and Lau of Puget Sound tied for second behind Leslie Wheeler of Linfield. Wheeler finished the two-day tournament with a 156, while Lau and Ueno shot 163s. Jasmine Ching of Pacific rose from 12th to fifth with an 81 on the final day.
Puget Sound won the team title by four strokes over Linfield.
