For Your Benefit
For and about Hawaii's military

Volunteer opportunities are available

Question: Does the VA have opportunities during Volunteer Week, which begins today?

Answer: VA's voluntary service is the largest volunteer program in the federal government. It matches the volunteer to the assignment, provides orientation and training for volunteers, and maintains an awards program to recognize volunteer service.

Over the past 59 years, VA volunteers have donated more than 663.5 million hours of service worth an estimated $11.4 billion.

You can get connected as a VA volunteer by calling the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System volunteer coordinator at 433-0109. If you would like further information on the VA Voluntary Service program, visit the VA Web site www.va.gov/volunteer.

If you have questions about your benefits as a veteran, call Fred Ballard at the Veterans Affairs at 433-0049 or visit the VA Web site at www.va.gov/hawaii or the Star-Bulletin at 529-4747.

Gregg K. Kakesako, who covers military affairs for the Star-Bulletin, can be reached by phone at 294-4075 or by e-mail at gkakesako@starbulletin.com. See also: In The Military
