Roy's is ready for Waikiki

Hawaii's most prolific restaurateur, Roy Yamaguchi, opens his 35th location at the Waikiki Beach Walk April 27 with a benefit for the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii.

The 6:30 p.m. event will feature an appetizer array with tequila, champagne and martini station, a ceremony by Tihati Productions and a silent auction.

Cost is $175. Call 926-8274.

The new Roy's will be open for lunch and dinner, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Call 923-7697.

Hoku's focus is on fungi

Hoku's in the Kahala Hotel Resort goes mushroom hunting with a menu of special selections Wednesday through Saturday.

Chef Wayne Hirabayashi has stocked up on portobello, shiitake, crimini, morel, oyster, enoki and maitake varieties, to be served in dishes such as Mushroom Sushi, Mushroom and Truffle Flan or Grilled Portobello "Loco Moco."

The regular Hoku's menu will also be available.

Hoku's is in the Kahala Hotel Resort. Hours are 5:30 to 10 p.m. Call 739-8780.

Hops & Grinds: This month's beer-tasting event at the Willows -- themed "Around the World in 80 Beers" -- will feature 80 domestic and imported craft beers and a pupu buffet, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. Cost is $25 in advance, available at the Willows, 901 Hausten St.; Liquor Collection; Wine Stop; and Tamura's Kaimuki. Tickets are $30 at the door. Call 952-9200.

Shanghai Bistro: Chef Chih-Chieh Chang's April cooking class, 10 a.m. Saturday, will feature dishes made with soy sauce -- Preserved Spicy Dry Tofu, Seaweed Shoyu, Chicken Wing and Thigh, and Beef Tendon. Cost is $35, including brunch. Call 955-8668.

Dixie Grill: Grills will be set up in the parking area of the Aiea location for "Smokin' Saturdays" through April. A 1-pound slab of ribs, with mashers and cob, is $11. Brasserie Du Vin: "The Grape Sea" wine dinner takes place at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow. Chef Scott Nelson's menu: Salt Spring Mussels (with Paul Pilot Chassagne-Montrachet), Crab and Tomato Au Gratin (Domaine Chandon Pino Meunier), Pecan-Crusted Swordfish (Wolfberger Pinot Blanc and Cliff Lede Chardonnay). Star of Honolulu: Celebrates its 50th anniversary with discount rates in April for the Star Sunset Dinner & Show Cruise. Cost is $50 for a two-hour cruise with three-course crab and steak dinner and "My Hawaii -- Lei of Memories." The cruise departs at 5:30 p.m. from Aloha Tower Marketplace, Pier 8. Call 983-7827.
