Rainbows can gain on WAC co-leader
Hawaii opens a key three-game baseball series at Fresno State tomorrow.
The Bulldogs are tied with Louisiana Tech at the top of the Western Athletic Conference with 6-3 records. UH is 5-4.
The Rainbows (24-13) come into the series with two consecutive losses. They are 2-2 on the current road trip, which concludes Sunday.
UH has a 3.11 team ERA and is hitting .302, compared to 4.40 and .289 for the Bulldogs. But Fresno State (21-18) has won eight of its last nine games.
The last time the teams met was in last year's final game of the WAC Tournament, which the host Bulldogs won 8-4.
UH first baseman Kris Sanchez continues to lead the WAC with a .400 batting average and has seven homers. Right-handers Matt Daly (2-1, 2.34) and Josh Schneider (3-2, 2.37) are atop the conference in ERA.
Fresno State second baseman Eric Wetzel is batting .366 with 31 runs scored and center fielder Brian Lapin is hitting .340 with three homers and 32 RBIs.
