Kim comes from behind to beat Kono
Former Big Island resident Kimberly Kim overcame a three-shot deficit entering yesterday's final round to win the ReBath Heather Farr Classic at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz., by four strokes.
Kim, who now resides in Queen Creek, Ariz., birdied three of her final five holes to take the lead and finish with a three-day, 54-hole total of 6-under 207. Punahou junior Stephanie Kono finished in a three-way tie for second place with an even-par score of 213, tied with Taylore Karle of Arizona and Rachel Morris of California.
"I wasn't thinking straight to start the day," said Kim of her final-round effort. "It took me until the back nine to realize I was using (Saturday's) hole location sheet. After I made that switch, I was good to go."
Chan Kim of Honolulu finished tied for 26th in the boys division with a 4-over-par 217.
Richard Lee took the boys title with an 8-under-par 205.The tournament featured 90 boys and 42 girls ages 12-18 from 17 states, Canada, the Cayman Islands and Mexico.
LPGA sensation Paula Creamer won the event -- now in its ninth year -- in 2003 and '04.
