Nia fitness technique to be offered

The fitness philosophy known as the Nia Technique combines elements from martial arts, dance and healing in a non-aerobic workout. Ken Gilbert, a master black belt instructor in Nia, will introduce the technique in classes and workshops next week at the Nuuanu YMCA and the Honolulu Club.

The schedule:

Nuuanu YMCA, 1441 Pali Highway: 4 to 6:15 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. next Saturday

Honolulu Club, 932 Ward Ave.: 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday

Cost is $20 ($10 for members) for one-hour classes; $30 ($20 members) for two-hour workshops; $60 ($45 members) for three-hour workshops. Cost to take both YMCA events is $45; $25 members. For all three Honolulu Club events it's $90.
