A cartoon sea turtle seems to mirror the curiosity of 9-year-old K-Aloha Stephens as he looks through his bag of goodies yesterday afternoon during the E Malama Na Keiki Easter Celebration on the Farrington High School grounds in Kalihi. The event, in its seventh year, is put on by four nonprofit organizations -- Angel Tree Foundation, Spirit of Aloha Inc., Hui Ho'omalu and Keiki O Ka Aina Family Learning Centers -- to encourage and promote family well-being during the Easter period.

The Third Annual Mad About Science Festival was held yesterday at Bishop Museum. Children and their parents enjoyed dozens of activities that allowed them to explore and discover various concepts in different sciences, from Earth and medical sciences to out-of-this-world space sciences. As Moanalua High School junior and volunteer Katie Ichiyama, left, talked about how much water is used in normal household chores, 6-year-old Joleen Nonaka, right, picked up a button and played with it as her sister, Alyson Nonaka, looked on.
