Voyaging canoes heading for Palau
The Hawaiian voyaging canoes Hokule'a and Alingano Maisu are headed to Palau
The canoes and their escort boat Kama Hele left Colonia, Yap at 6 p.m. yesterday and are expected to arrive in Palau this weekend, weather permitting, according to a news release.
Hokule'a is in the lead with navigator Nainoa Thompson as its captain.
"I think Palau is a place where we can learn from and get ideas from," Thompson said. We want to tell their story. Their story is about people making the right choices. It's about our relationship to our environment," Thompson said.
