A PARADE FIT FOR A PRINCE

Members of the King's Guard carried the Hawaii and American flags at the head of the Prince Kuhio Parade yesterday, which made its way down Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki. The Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs, which sponsored the parade, called the event "Ke Alii Maka Ainana: The Citizen Prince" in honor of Prince Kuhio, born March 26, 1871, on Kauai.

Volunteers helped prepare Shinnyo-en Temple's 1,350 lanterns, which will be set afloat on May 28, during the Lantern Floating Hawaii ceremony at Ala Moana Beach Park. Adele Shima and Dorothy Fischer wrapped paraffin paper around a lantern frame yesterday afternoon.

During the traditional Japanese lantern floating, or Toro Nagashi, lanterns with prayers are set afloat in remembrance of ancestors and those departed. Lanterns are available to individuals or groups as part of a fundraiser for the Honolulu City and County Parks and Recreation Department.
