Customers, traffic and cash for free
NEW friends, raving fans and cash! All for free! That's one of the great things about new media. Marketing with blogs, podcasts, and social networks like MySpace are pushbutton simple with some basic strategies.
Yet, I've been blown away with the power and simplicity of Squidoo: 700 visitors and 95 subscribers in less than 21 days -- with barely 60 minutes of effort.
A little over a month ago, Bob, one of our coaching members, released an awesome package of strategies and shortcuts regarding using Squidoo as a new-media marketing channel. Before he released his course, we had been dabbling with Squidoo using some of Bob's secrets. When Bob launched his program, as an experiment, we decided to follow the exact same steps Bob was laying out for everyone else at SquidooBoost.com.
The lens we decided to focus on for this little experiment is www.squidoo.com/ secretsofonlinepersuasion.
Before starting, this lens had a rank of about 15,000 within Squidoo. We tracked a few dozen visitors per week coming out of the lens to Advanced Business Blogging. Not bad compared to a pay-per-click rate of 40 to 50 cents.
Fast forward three weeks and Frankenstein-like results: The Secrets of Online Persuasion Squidoo lens is now ranked at No. 16 in business, and No. 234 out of over 99,000 lenses.
More important, with just 30 minutes of initial adjustments and less than 10 minutes per week in added tweaks, we tracked 704 visitors from Squidoo and 95 of those visitors became new subscribers. Incredible! More than 700 site visitors and 95 new subscribers from one free new-media source! When we made the cost analysis against pay-per-click advertising again, we conservatively got $280 to $350 in traffic for free. Now you can see why I was blown away.
When you check out Secrets of Online Persuasion at Squidoo, you can participate, too. Just scroll toward the bottom of the page and add your blog or podcast or let the world know about your YouTube, Squidoo, or MySpace page. All you need to do to join in the fun is add your URL to the list titled "Show Off Your Online Persuasion Expertise." While you're there let us know your opinion by ranking the lens. Then, do yourself a favor and learn the secret inner workings of Squidoo by grabbing Bob's intro-level Squidoo course.
The really great thing about Squidoo is that you don't even need a Web site or blog to start marketing.
If you're just starting out online, this is a terrific new-media tool to start with. Bob didn't even have a Web site and he was featured in the New York Times for his Squidoo lens on beef jerky.
