Lifetime achievement awards on tap for Hawaii music stars
Five recording industry veterans will be honored on Saturday for their contributions to Hawaii's music scene.
The Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts and Na Hoku Hanohano will present the Lifetime Achievement Awards during a luncheon at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
The honorees:
Gabe Baltazar: A saxophonist who has played with Stan Kenton, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Carter, Cannonball Adderley and Oliver Nelson.
Loyal Garner: Recipient of the Na Hoku Hanohano Award for female vocalist of the year in 1982 and 1993, she performed worldwide before her death in 2001.
Rene Paulo: A jazz pianist who toured with Alfred Apaka and Don Ho, and performed in Waikiki for nearly 40 years.
Society of Seven: The Outrigger Waikiki's showroom stars for more than 35 years now perform in Las Vegas.
The Surfers: Veterans of Hollywood and Vegas showrooms as well as Waikiki's biggest stages.
Tickets to the 11 a.m. lunch are $70, $100 for premium admission, $1,000 for corporate tables. Call 593-9424.
