UH-Hilo defeated in a rain-shortened loss
UH-Hilo fell 5-2 to Grand Canyon in a game that was called after only seven innings due to heavy rain at Wong Stadium.
Michael Higa led the Vulcans (1-15) with two doubles on the game. Grand Canyon (9-7) got a solid five innings from starting pitcher Brian Broderick and two RBIs from left fielder Trevor Vega.
Stant to speak at Quarterback Club
Newly hired Kamehameha head football coach David Stant, a former University of Hawaii defensive lineman, will be the featured speaker at tomorrow's Honolulu Quarterback Club meeting at the Pagoda Hotel main ballroom.
Camyn James, head coach of the Rainbow Wahine track and field program, and Kingsly Ah You, president of Hi50Sports, will also speak. The program starts at 12 p.m. and is open to the general public.
Hawaii diver advances to national championship
Hawaii junior diver Mats Wiktorsson placed second on the men's 10-meter platform yesterday at the NCAA Zone E Diving Regional in Oklahoma City.
Wiktorsson finished with a score of 669.35, falling short of eventual winner Michele Benedetti from Arizona State. Wiktorsson now joins fellow Hawaii diver Magnus Frick in the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis on March 15.
Top-ranked BYU-Hawaii remains undefeated
Third-ranked Yuliya Ustyuzhanina defeated Elena Hudzikova 6-0, 6-0 to lead top-ranked BYU-Hawaii over host No. 18 HPU 7-0 in women's tennis.
The Seasiders dropped only one set in all nine matches.
» In men's action, BYU-Hawaii beat HPU 5-4 in a hard-fought contest.
Seasider Thomas Hladil held on to defeat HPU's Anton Samuilau 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 to give BYU-Hawaii the decisive match.
Rainbow Wahine split softball doubleheader
Sophomore Justine Smethurst pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout in Hawaii's 2-0 victory over Kent State in game one. Shortstop Kanani Warren knocked in both Wahine runs.
Hawaii's pitching did not hold up in game two, as the Georgia Bulldogs jumped out to 5-0 second inning lead in their 9-6 rout over the Rainbow Wahine (15-5). Tyleen Tausaga hit a home run and tallied four RBIs for Hawaii.
