Rainbows blasted by Shockers
Trapasso wants to see how his team will react to the loss
It's still early enough in the season that Hawaii baseball coach Mike Trapasso can find a positive after his team found itself on the wrong side of a good old-fashioned butt-whipping.
Next Up vs. Wichita State today

"I'm anxious to see the way we react tomorrow," Trapasso said. "When someone takes your lunch money and punches you in the mouth, do you just run away or do you come out fighting? We'll see; it's good for us."
Wichita State, with left-hander Rob Musgrave perfect through nearly seven innings, dominated UH's batters last night in the first of a three-game series, and WSU's Derek Schermerhorn had three hits, including a two-run homer. He also stole two bases.
The No. 12-ranked Shockers won 7-1, outhitting the Rainbows 11-2. A crowd of 1,964 at Les Murakami Stadium saw UH fall to 9-4 and Wichita State improve to 6-2.
UH tries to even the series with Mark Rodrigues (4-0, 1.46) going up against WSU's Aaron Shafer (1-1, 1.74) tonight at 6:35.
Last night, Musgrave (2-0) kept the Rainbows lineup off-balance with an effective fastball, curve and change.
"A great performance," WSU coach Gene Stephenson said. "When he stays within himself and doesn't try to overpower, that's what happens."
He struck out five and walked just one, allowing one hit before he was pulled with two outs in the eighth.
"I was able to locate all my pitches for strikes and just tried to force contact," said Musgrave, who was making just his second start of the season and threw 94 pitches. "I wanted to keep my pitch-count down."

Landon Hernandez broke up Musgrave's no-hitter and shutout with a double in the eighth to score Evan Zimny, who had walked. But the Shockers had already done enough damage with their bats and legs.
"I didn't like the way we played defensively, pitching-wise," said Trapasso, who was particularly displeased with the Rainbows' inability to keep the Shockers from running. "But we gotta give all the credit to Musgrave, the way he pitched today."
Hawaii's two hits represented the Rainbows' lowest total of the season.
UH starter and loser Ian Harrington (2-3) nearly matched Musgrave's perfection for four innings, but Wichita State scored two unearned runs in the fifth.
"The second time around for us, we began to pick it up a bit," Stephenson said.
Matt Brown led off with a sharp single to left and Blake Hurlbutt walked one out later, putting runners on first and second.
Tyler Weber then hit a soft bouncing ball toward Justin Frash at third. The ball got past Frash and went into left field, allowing Brown and Hurlbutt -- who were running on the pitch -- to both score.
WSU made it 3-0 in the sixth. Schermerhorn singled, advanced to second on a ground out and stole third. He scored on Conor Gillaspie's sharp single to right through UH's drawn-in infield.
Andy Dirks hit a two-out single to center, scoring Hurlbutt to give the Shockers a 4-0 lead in the seventh and knock Harrington out of the game.
Harrington allowed six singles in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked two.
Craig Johnson relieved and Schermerhorn greeted him with a two-run homer over the second fence in left. Damon Sublett followed with an infield single, but was caught stealing to end the inning.
Meanwhile, Musgrave was perfect the first 6 2/3 innings, retiring the first 20 Rainbows until Frash reached first on a fielding error by second baseman Sublett. Brandon Haislet then struck out to end the inning.
UH first baseman Kris Sanchez flied out to center and struck out twice, ending a 16-game hitting streak going back to last season.
