Hoku’s star shines
Hoku Scientific Inc. came out brightest of the bunch in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin stock index this week, up 8.02 percent to close at $5.66 a share.
The company, in the midst of a transition from a developer of fuel-cell technology to a producer of solar-panel components, is still far off its highs, however. Over the last 12 months, the stock is down 28.17 percent.
Behind Hoku this week was Alexander & Baldwin Inc., up 2.11 percent to close at $51.34. Over the last 12 months A&B is up 5.36 percent.
The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
