UH's Mason honored by MPSF
Hawaii water polo player Kelly Mason was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation/Mikasa Player of the Week yesterday.
The Rainbow Wahine sophomore scored 12 goals in leading UH to three wins last week at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. She scored two against San Diego State and had five goals against both Long Beach State and Arizona State.
The Wahine play at UCLA tomorrow and at UC Irvine on Friday and take part in the Anteater Invitational over the weekend.
Wichita State takes 2 against Hawaii-Hilo
No. 12 Wichita State kept Hawaii-Hilo winless by sweeping a baseball doubleheader yesterday at Wong Stadium.
The Shockers (3-2) scored in each of the first five innings of the opener on their way to a 7-3 win. Wichita State pitcher Aaron Shafer struck out seven over five innings to earn the win.
Robby Mowers drove in two runs for the Vulcans (0-11).
In the second game, Shockers second baseman Damon Sublett went 4-for-6 with two triples and four RBIs to lead Wichita State to an 11-4 win.
Leadoff hitter Andy Dirks went 4-for-5 and drove in a run, and Derek Schermerhorn was 3-for-6 with an RBI.
Hawaii-Hilo's Lars Knepper struck out eight over seven innings and took the loss.
Brigham Young-Hawaii tennis team sweeps
The Brigham Young-Hawaii women's tennis team remained undefeated with a 7-0 win over Chaminade yesterday in Laie.
The Seasiders swept through all five singles matches in straight sets and won both doubles matches to improve to 4-0.
