Dinner for ASSETS

A dozen chefs will join forces to help raise cash for ASSETS School at "A Passage to Paradise: Discovering Hidden Treasures," 6 to 10 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Sheraton Waikiki.

Cooking for the night will be Bill Bruhl of Blu Water Grill, Ryan Espiritu of North Shore Cattle Co., Elmer Guzman of Poke Stop, Kevin Hanney of 12th Avenue Grill, JJ of JJ's French Pastry and Bistro, Eric Leterc of the Pacific Club, Ernesto Limtiaco of Y. Hata, Jim Mattson of E&O Trading Co., Michelle Nakaya of Ginniberries, Philippe and Pierre Padovani of Padovani's Chocolates, Göran Streng of ScadinAsian Culinary Cuisine and Warren Uchida of the Sheraton.

A silent auction will include a 2007 Honda Odyssey Ex-L. Tickets are $150. Call 440-8440.

A vegan affair

A Vegan Macrobiotic Community Dinner will be helf from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at Church of the Crossroads, 1212 University Ave.

Chef Leslie Ashburn's menu: Mushroom Miso Soup, Stir-Fried Vegetables and Yaki Udon, Seitan Tempura, Greens with Lemon Tahini Dressing and Carrot and Daikon Slaw.

Eat-in or take-out meals cost $12. Dessert of Chocolate Tapioca and Japanese twig tea is an extra $3.50.

If your valentine loves romance novels, Friends of the Library of Hawaii has a last-minute gift idea: a box of novels for $5.

Stop by the Friends' new bookstore, which is in a bookmobile parked at their office, 690 Pohukaina St., three blocks Diamond Head of Punchbowl Street in Kakaako. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays. Call 536-4174.
