Handbell choir will hold 3 free concerts

The choir's repertoire ranges from classical standards such as Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro" to stage hits such as Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Memory" from "Cats."

The group, based in Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture, has performed throughout Japan, as well as in Canada, England and Australia.

Collection at school to take recyclables

Can't figure out what do to with those old cellular phones, car batteries, printer cartridges or computers? All manner of recyclables -- from paper to auto parts -- will be collected from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Kapolei High School.

Several businesses will pick up the items, then make donations to the school. Previous community collections have grossed non-profit organizations 22 containers each of green waste, tires, newspaper, cardboard and beverage containers, 11 truckloads of batteries, 23 truckloads of refrigerators and almost 800,000 pounds of scrap metal.

Goodwill Industries will also be on hand to collect useable clothing and household goods.

Call 282-6828 or 306-1876 if you need pick-up assistance or if you can volunteer your time or use of a van or truck for the event.
