Use the right keywords to draw a crowd
WANT your business blog and new-media marketing to work hard for you?
Well, one of the most important things you can do is to use the right keywords --keywords that people are already using to find the solutions and services you have to offer.
Marketing with new-media tools like business blogs, podcasts, tagging, and social networking sites like MySpace allows you to build rapport, branding, and trust like no other online marketing method.
But, let's face it. If you're a small business owner, network marketer, or sales professional, and you want to attract the most new prospects possible in the easiest way possible, that starts with top search rankings. New media and blog optimization hinge on keywords just like any other type of online marketing.
Here are three free tools to help select killer keywords for your business blog and new-media marketing:
» Overture's free keyword research tool.
Now a Yahoo! company, Overture (www.over-ture.com) is a search marketing service. This free tool is designed to help advertisers select keywords for their Pay Per Click (PPC) campaigns. It's a good tool to help optimize your new-media marketing, too, by seeing what keywords are popular in paid listings.
» WordTracker's new keyword selection tool.
WordTracker is our favorite tool for doing in-depth keyword research. Now, WordTracker has released a free keyword selection tool. (http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com) The results in the tests we ran are quite different than what you'll get in Overture, which means you'll get a wider spectrum of top keywords to use in your business blogging and new-media marketing.
» Keyword Fisher
This tool gives you a totally different twist. Where Overture and WordTracker's free keyword-selection tools focus on terms people are searching for, Keyword Fisher (http://www.binarypros.com/keyword-fisher) collects the keywords your competition is focusing on and tallies them up for you in a report.
Once data collection is complete you'll have a comprehensive list of keywords and phrases that your competitors have spent their time and money to research!
Now this is not always the most accurate way to select killer keywords for your business, but it is valuable because it allows you to look at your keyword list from another angle. At the very least, it opens your eyes to other possibilities to test.
IF YOU HAVE FOUND another free keyword-selection tool that helps optimize your business blogging and new-media marketing, please share them with us and we will comment on them in a future column.
