School fires up its fund-raising imu
Kailua Elementary is digging an imu and offering space in it to anyone hungry for a luau-flavored meal.
Food goes into the imu on Feb. 23 and emerges the next day. Students, faculty and parents will tend the smoky underground oven through the night to raise money for a fourth-grade Hawaiian studies excursion.
Cost is $10 per tray of food. Pack thawed seasoned pork, turkey, sweet potatoes, taro, luau leaves, etc., in a large disposable aluminum baking tray and seal it in foil. Weight limit is 25 pounds.
Drop-off is from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at the imu, which will be near the school's parking lot. Pick-up is from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Feb. 24.
Mail-in deadline for reservations is Feb. 16. Make checks payable to Kailua Elementary School, and mail to the school, 315 Kuulei Road, Kailua 96734. Include your telephone number. Write IMU in the lower left corner of the envelope and enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope for your confirmation ticket and number.
Call Todd Hendricks, 728-7389, or Daniel Haiola, 428-1888.
