Boyce carries Seasiders past Vulcans
Eric Boyce hit seven 3-pointers and finished with 25 points to lead the Brigham Young-Hawaii basketball team to a 93-83 win over Hawaii-Hilo last night at the Cannon Activities Center.
Boyce led five Seasiders in double figures. Jermaine Odjegba added 14 points and Lucas Alves, Paul Peterson and Wu Tai-hao had 12 each for BYUH (16-5, 8-1 Pacific West Conference). Rashad Bilal led UH-Hilo (8-12, 5-4) with 22 points and Travis Sobers added 21.
» Chaminade guard Zack Whiting had 20 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in the Silverswords' 86-56 win over Hawaii Pacific at McCabe Gym.
Whiting, among 17 finalists for the Bob Cousy Award which honors the nation's top point guard, made six of seven shots from the field for Chaminade (13-7, 5-3). Hayden Heiber scored 19. Logan Wolf led HPU with 11 points.
» Latoya Wily scored 25 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead BYUH to a 76-63 women's basketball win over Hawaii-Hilo yesterday .
Lesina Funaki added 14 points for BYUH (9-10, 7-2) and Kayla Burningham had 13. Ashley Kualii led four Vulcans (3-14, 2-7) in double figures with 15 points.
» Wily was named the PacWest Player of the Week for the fourth time this season for her performance against Hawaii Pacific last week. She matched a season high with 27 points on 11-for-15 shooting and grabbed 17 rebounds in the Seasiders' win over HPU.
UH water polo opens with victory
Lisa van Raalte scored four goals to lead the fifth-ranked Hawaii water polo team to an 11-9 season-opening win over host San Jose State yesterday.
Kelly Mason added three goals for the Rainbow Wahine in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at The Aquatics Center. Emily Cox, Anna Sieprath, Kristy Bagnall and Angela Turnbull scored one each.
Hawaii next faces No. 3 Stanford today.
XTERRA World Championship on TV
The XTERRA World Championship on Maui will be the focus of tomorrow's CBS Sports Spectacular. The show airs at 8 a.m. Hawaii time.
The off-road triathlon was held on Oct. 29 with more than 500 participants taking part in the one-mile ocean swim, 20-mile mountain bike ride and seven-mile run.
