Local beauty Ori Ann Li focuses on care for animals
FREELANCE CHINESE language translator and animal lover
Ori Ann Li of Kapolei has been named Mrs. Hawaii International. The UH grad and former Chaminade instructor in mass media communications will represent Hawaii in the Mrs. International 2007 contest in Chicago in July. Lori is a busy woman. Her main focus now is the well-being of animals. And her home is full of them: two dogs, six cats and two rabbits. She looks after birds as well and helps animal shelters. At one time she had a petting zoo for kids at her house. People, usually children, leave animals and birds needing care on her doorstep. She also helps kids with drama and art and has been a docent the Academy of Arts and the Hawaii State Museum. Ori Ann has given up some of the volunteer work to concentrate on animals ...

Happy birthday to the Royal Hawaiian, celebrating its 80th tomorrow ...
Abe Weinstein will be fondly remembered

I tried to call Abe Monday to discuss his upcoming jazz fest at Windward Community College Feb. 11, featuring some of the top musicians and groups in Hawaii. Abe planned to play his sax in the festival.
Dana Ritchie Fujikake, Abe's co-producer and close friend, said the festival will go on as scheduled. Abe will be remembered well at the event ...
LAWRENCE HARRIS has two loves, opera and football. Larry was an offensive lineman for the Houston Oilers in the 1980s and you'd think he would be watching the Super Bowl on Sunday. But no, the big guy who stands 6-feet-5, will tackle the role of the High Priest of Dagon in Hawaii Opera Theatre's Sunday matinee of "Samson & Delila" at the Blaisdell Concert Hall. The Opera opens its run Friday night and also plays Tuesday night ...
