Mililani tops D-I seedings
For much of the season, the Mililani Trojans weren't exactly sitting on top of the Oahu Interscholastic Association.
In fact, with two losses in the OIA Red West, Mililani was not the favorite to sweep through the league playoffs, which they eventually did.
The Trojans' late-season surge to the OIA title was rewarded yesterday with a No. 1 seeding in the Data House/HHSAA State Softball Division I Championships. Mililani (13-2) won the 2005 D-I state title under former coach Mike Okimoto and was runner-up last season.
Sacred Hearts (6-8), was named the No. 1 seed in the Division II state tourney.
The D-I and D-II tournaments begin on Wednesday. The Division I bracket will be at UH's Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. The D-II bracket is at Central Oahu Regional Park.
The seeded teams behind Mililani, all league champions, in Division I are No. 2 St. Francis (12-3), No. 3 Baldwin (14-0) and No. 4 Waiakea (11-1). St. Francis, the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion, won the state D-II championship in 2004.
Division II seeds behind Sacred Hearts are No. 2 Kauai (7-6), No. 3 Kahuku (12-1) and No. 4 Kamehameha-Hawaii (9-3).
Sacred Hearts was D-II state runner-up last year to champion Pac-Five.
