Help with preparing taxes offered
FREE HELP to prepare basic federal and state income tax returns will be offered again this year to those with moderate to low incomes, especially those aged 60 and over, the disabled and those with limited English-speaking skills.
The program, utilizing trained volunteers, is sponsored by the nonprofit AARP Tax-Aide, the Internal Revenue Service, state Department of Taxation, Armed Forces, community organizations/coalitions and educational institutions.
Among the items you must bring: photo ID; Social Security card (also for spouses and dependents, if applicable); current year's federal and state tax form packets, if received; wage/earnings and interest/dividend statements; copy of last year's income tax returns; and other relevant information regarding income and expenses.
Free electronic filing is available at most sites.
