Falcons punch ticket to states
Carter Kam and Dylan Tasher each scored a goal as Kalani shut out Aiea 2-0 yesterday to advance to the semifinals of the Oahu Interscholastic Association boys soccer playoffs at Roosevelt.
The Falcons (8-3-1) earned an automatic berth in the state tournament with the victory, while Na Alii (8-3) will have to win their next two games to also qualify.
All of the quarterfinal winners earned a trip to the state tournament.
Kalani will face off against Kalaheo in the semifinals Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Moanalua. The two teams played to a 3-3 tie in their lone meeting during the season.
Kapolei 1, Moanalua 0 PK
Neither team scored in regulation or two overtime periods, and the Hurricanes outscored Na Menehune 3-0 on penalty kicks to pull out the win.
Kapolei managed to hold Moanalua's Rayden Tsutsui without a goal. Tsutsui led the OIA Eastern Division in the regular season with 16 goals.
Kalaheo 3, Roosevelt 2
Timothy Heu scored two goals and Joshua Amoroso added another as the fifth-seeded Mustangs (7-1-4) shocked the top-seeded Rough Riders (7-2-2) out of the East.
Leilehua 2, Mililani 0
Syd Tom scored both Mules goals as Leilehua (10-1) advanced to the semifinals to face Kapolei at Moanalua on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m.
