Brennan had the best reason of all
COLT Brennan's announcement that he would return to UH for his senior season was so exciting I almost threw up.
I love listening to people's reasons. He did it because he wanted to. He'll be just as big a pro prospect next year? No, no he probably won't, this was probably his best shot at being a big pick. But he just wanted to come back.
Loyalty? Yes, there was some of that, but he'd paid everyone back (and if he didn't know that, whoever was advising him did). UH balanced its budget by $7,000 this year. That's Colt Brennan. Yes, he was lucky to hook up with June Jones, but June Jones is just as lucky to have hooked up with him. He's paid everybody back.
Unselfishness? OK, but really, selfishly, he wanted to come back and be the UH quarterback again. If he was really that unselfish he would have left and let Tyler Graunke finally have a shot.
But no, overriding everything, more than anything, his heart told him he wanted to come back and do it again. He's happy.
And that's the best reason to make a decision like that.
» I don't know if I want to live in a world in which Peyton Manning is in the Super Bowl. Actually, Manning could win me over if he ran out for his Super Bowl introduction while wearing that fake mustache. If he did that, I take back everything, I'm a fan for life.
» Speaking of commercials, now we know what Michael Strahan was chewing when he was trying to intimidate that reporter while talking with his mouth full -- Subway.
(Ooh. Bad ad campaign. The pro football player bantering with "Jared." Bring back Jon Lovitz.)
» Auwe. O-for-Idaho for the basketball 'Bows. That hurts. One loss was bad enough, you could see that happening, but then UH goes to Boise State on the day they're officially celebrating the Fiesta Bowl miracle (and thus, host a hysterical, raucous, biggest-in-seven-years crowd)? Auwe. Now that's bad luck.
» Bill Parcells announces that he is officially retired from coaching football. In a related story, I promise to stop breathing.
I will probably still make it 38 seconds longer than Bill.
» After writing about golfer Will MacKenzie (and finally watching that "Ricky Bobby" movie), I have decided I am going to start -- in everyday, regular conversation -- saying the word "awesome."
» I know it's a month later, now -- but I haven't seen, heard, read anything about this. Didn't anyone notice that at the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl Jerry Glanville was wearing his usual black shirt -- with Santa, the sleigh and reindeer embroidered all over it? Because the game was on Christmas Eve? Didn't anybody else see this?
That was awesome!
