2 suspects arrested in Waialae carjacking
The men, ages 27 and 29, are suspected in an incident where two men were kidnapped
Police caught two suspects yesterday in connection with a carjacking, kidnapping and robbery of two men Tuesday afternoon in Waialae.
Police received information that one of the suspects was at a Pearl City home, and Specialized Services Division, Crime Reduction Units and police detectives converged on the house at about 1 p.m. yesterday.
Police found two men stripping a car at the house.
A 27-year-old Pearl City man ran into the house and gave himself up to police at about 1:30 p.m., police said. He was arrested on suspicion of three counts of kidnapping, two counts of first-degree robbery, a firearms violation, car theft and unauthorized entry into a car, and first-degree burglary.
The second man was arrested for investigation of car theft and second-degree theft, but those offenses were not related to the Waialae carjacking.
A second suspect in the carjacking, a 29-year-old man, was also arrested yesterday at a Waipahu residence on suspicion of robbery, kidnapping, auto theft and possession of a firearm.
On Tuesday at about 4:25 p.m., a man and woman were pulling up to a friend's house in Waialae on Alakoa Street when a car pulled up behind them. One of the men brandished a handgun and demanded money from the pair and the friend, police said.
One of the men told the woman to get out of the car, a Lexus, and told the two men, ages 21 and 22, to get into the Lexus, police said.
The suspects later drove off with the two hostages, according to police.
One hostage was released a few blocks away unharmed. The second victim was released unharmed and found at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in Kaimuki with the Lexus.
