Lean, low-sodium cooking class offered
The Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific is offering a cooking class for those in need of a low-sodium, low-fat, low-cholesterol diet.
Dietician Terry Leong will present "Lean, Low Sodium and Scrumptious" from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Frear Cafeteria, 226 N. Kuakini St.
Cost is $30, which includes a demonstration of cooking techniques and a tasting. Reservations required. Call 566-3780.
KCC schedules variety of cooking classes
Kapiolani Community College offers these classes in January and February. Registration runs three weeks in advance. Call 734-9211.
Cooking Basics: Chef Grant Sato's series run from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays and include Soups (Jan. 27), Thai Basics (Feb. 3), Sauté and Pan Sauces (Feb. 24). Cost is $60. A class on sandwiches runs 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 26. Cost is $55.
Chocolate: Chef Abigail Langlas of the Honolulu Coffee Co. teaches how to identify and use different types of chocolate in simple desserts; 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 27. Cost is $65.
Taste of Mexico: Chef Adriana Torres of Mexico City teaches how to make frijoles charros, chiles rellenos and fish Vera Cruz style; 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 3. Cost is $60.
Seafood Explosion: Chef Dale Thomas explains how select and prepare seafood; 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 5. Cost is $58.
Baking Basics -- Valentine's Treats: Make simple chocolate candies and mini-cakes; 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 10. Cost is $60.
