"Taka, A Bio-terror Thriller"
By Terry Fritts
Echo Park Press
$14.95
This is the first of three thrillers by Terry Fritts that feature the Hawaiian Islands as the primary setting for the action. The novel capitalizes on the historic sights, culture, resorts and history of the islands and blends them into the intrigue and action of his thrillers. "Taka" features the Big Island and includes scenes set at the Kohala Coast, Volcanoes National Park and Parker Ranch.
"Tutu's Stories"
Written by Nancy Alpert Mower
Illustrated by Robin Yoko Racoma
Kamehameha Schools, $12.99
This is a large-format hardcover children's book that tells the story of Grandma Tutu's illness and the way her grandchildren learn to cope. The book was originally published in 1993 as "Grandma's Stories." The text and the artwork are first rate, and while the book is a bit on the thin side, it would appeal to most young readers.
