Middleweight champ Trigg to fight in Florida
Newly crowned Icon Sport world middleweight champion Frank Trigg will fight Ivan Jorge (5-0) on the undercard of the Gracie Fighting Championship's Evolution event Jan. 20 in Miami, Fla.
Also, Hawaii's Renato "Charuto" Verissimo will square off against Rumble on the Rock welterweight champion Jake Shields, and the main event features Mario Sperry fighting Wes Sims, who defeated Kimo Leopoldo by TKO at an X-1 event last October at the Blaisdell Arena.
The event will air on In-Demand and Dish Network pay-per-view.
Seasiders' Alves earns PacWest honor
Brigham Young-Hawaii freshman Lucas Alves was named the Pacific West Conference player of the week yesterday after averaging 15.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in three Seasiders victories last week.
Alves is shooting more than 60 percent from the field for the season and averaging nearly 16 points a game.
» Zack Whiting finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists as Chaminade (10-5, 2-1 PacWest) defeated BYU-Hawaii 83-69 last night at McCabe Gym to hand the Seasiders (11-5, 3-1) their first conference loss.
» Vince Alvarado led four Vulcans in double figures with a game-high 22 points as Hawaii-Hilo defeated Hawaii Pacific 84-66 last night at Afook Chinen Civic Auditorium.
Sam Wilhoite added 14 points and 11 rebounds for UH-HIlo (5-10, 2-1 PacWest). Kamron Alborz and Patrick Towne each scored 15 points to lead the Sea Warriors (7-8, 1-3).
